First ECMO center in the region
When your heart or lungs fail, Joya Hospital takes action
What is ECMO?
When a patient's heart or lungs can no longer sustain life on their own, time is the most important factor. At Joya Marina Hospital, we have the most advanced life support technology: ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation).
Imagine an artificial heart and lung working outside the body. ECMO does exactly that: it oxygenates and pumps blood to give vital organs a respite, allowing them to rest and recover. It is a highly complex technology that has proven to be a lifesaver in times of maximum emergency.

Who is ECMO for?
ECMO is not just a technology, it is the last hope for patients in extremely delicate conditions. Our specialized medical team can apply this treatment in critical situations such as:
- Severe lung damageCaused by pneumonia, COVID-19 or other conditions that prevent the lungs from functioning.
- Massive heart attacksWhen the heart cannot pump blood efficiently.
- MyocarditisA life-threatening inflammation of the heart muscle.
- Severe poisoningDamage that has seriously affected heart or lung function.
- Transplant BridgeProvides life support while the patient is waiting for a heart or lung transplant.
We are the first ELSO member ECMO center in the region.
Having ECMO technology is important, but operating it with the highest standards is crucial. That is why at Joya Marina Hospital we are proud to be the first center in the region to be certified by ELSO, the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization.
What does our ELSO certification mean to you?
Expert Team: Our medical staff, nurses and perfusionists are trained under the most rigorous protocols worldwide to manage ECMO.
- Safety and Quality: ELSO certification is a seal of excellence that guarantees that we follow international standards in patient safety and care.
- Vanguard Protocols: We are aligned with global best practices, which maximizes the chances of treatment success.

At Joya Marina Hospital, our commitment is to your life. We have the infrastructure, the technology and the human team to offer you the highest level of life support in the moments you need it most.
